  17. ABSTRACT:
  18. Both NetWare for SAA 1.3 and NACS v3 include SPXFIX1.NLM.  NetWare 3.11
  19. server abends have been traced to SPXFIX1.NLM.  Therefore, STRTLI.EXE
  20. provides SPXFIX2.NLM (and ancillary files) as a replacement for SPXFIX1
  21. (and its ancillary files).  All NetWare for SAA 1.3

  52. If you are using:
  53. NetWare for SAA 1.3, or NetWare for SAA 1.2, or NACS 3.0X and an SPXS.NLM
  54. dated after 2-14-91 we recomend that you use the SPXFIX2.NLM and the
  55. PATCHMAN.NLM included with this in this zipped file rather than the SPXFIX1
  56. and PATCHMAN provided on the NetWare for SAA or NACS disks.  Failure to do
  57. so may result in server Abends.
  58.  
  59. XMDFIX.NLM.  This patch corrects a problem with utilities that use the SPX
  60. protocol to maintain communication with the server. Typically the client
  61. will loose the connection to the server and the following message will be
  62. displayed:
  63.  
  64. "No more response buffers available"
  65.  
  66. The most common occurrence is with a remote printer(RPRINTER.EXE) loosing
  67. it's connection to the print server(PSERVER.NLM), but it may  happen with
  68. other utilities.  This is happens when a call to SPXSendSequencedPacket()
  69. resets a session retransmit count which causes it to NOT abort the
  70. connection if the connection is broken in one direction and maintained in
  71. another.

  73. INSTALLATION
  74. Make a backup copy of each of these NLM's you are currently running. Copy
  75. the new NLM's into the appropriate directories.
  76.  
  77. NACS INSTALLATION
  78. In the AUTOEXEC.NCF file, replace LOAD SPXFIX1 with LOAD SPXFIX2. Replace
  79. all older versions of PATCHMAN, STREAMS and SPXS with the NLM versions
  80. which come with STRTLI.EXE Load SPXFSFIX and SPXLISFX after loading
  81. SPXFIX2.

  83. OTHER ISSUES
  84. SPXFSFIX.NLM resolves a problem with lost connections never timing out
  85. because of infinite transmit retries.
  86.  
  87. SPXLISFX.NLM resolves an extremely poor performance problem for some backup
  88. software or any SPX program that is using a limited number of receive
  89. buffers.  The new SPXLISFX.NLM and the new SPXS.NLM should be used
  90. together.
